Google Adds AI Features to Chromebook Plus Devices

In a move that solidifies its AI-first strategy, Google has rolled out a major update for Chromebook Plus devices, bringing a suite of AI-powered tools and enhancements designed to boost productivity, creativity, and user experience.

What’s New in the Chromebook Plus Update?

The June 2025 update introduces a variety of artificial intelligence features exclusive to Chromebook Plus models, which are designed to offer a premium ChromeOS experience. Some of the key AI-powered upgrades include:

• Help Me Write: Integrated directly into the operating system, this feature provides AI-based writing suggestions across supported apps and websites, making it easier to draft emails, documents, and social posts.
• Magic Editor in Google Photos: Previously available only on Pixel devices, this powerful photo editing tool allows users to effortlessly enhance, reposition, or remove elements from images using generative AI.
• AI-Powered Video Calls: Google has added automatic lighting, noise cancellation, and background blur tools to improve video call quality regardless of the app being used.
• Smart Personalization Tools: Chromebook Plus users can now access AI-based wallpaper generation and stylized screensavers based on their Google Photos library.

Eligible Devices and Rollout Timeline

The update is being rolled out to all Chromebook Plus devices starting June 2025. Users should ensure their system is up to date to access the new features.

Additionally, Google is offering trial access to Gemini, its generative AI assistant, to all Chromebook Plus users. This includes up to 3 months of free access to Gemini Advanced, part of Google One AI Premium.
